C.A.S. Benefit Plans

The home page for desktop.Internal page showing tab states and sub-menu.Tablet device display changes for portrait and landscape viewing.Mobile - small but readable without having to zoom in.

There were a few goals for the C.A.S. website. First, C.A.S. wanted to give the website a new and more modern look. But they wanted the site to resize itself as the screen size changed and they wanted to make sure it was easily viewable on mobile devices. The simple answer was to use responsive desgin, which is a feature of the relatively new CSS3 standard.

The fun challenge then becomes addressing how the website looks as it scales up and down while keeping the most important elements available at all times.

Frameshop World

As soon as a user comes to the site, they can upload an image to frame.Next they choose their media type (canvas or paper),Finally, they choose their frame and matting color, and add to cart. The framed product ends up in the shopping cart with the option to edit.

Frameshop World actually began with an iPhone app more than a year ago. The initial web prototype was completed soon after, but then sat for quite a bit of time while the client re-worked exactly how he wanted the website to work. The key was that the process had to be easy and intuitive without tons of instructions to the user. It also had to be fun and quick. The biggest challenge was creating a dynamic product because of the fact that customers would be uploading their own images. But between Drupal, Ubercart and jQuery, the process actually ended up being pretty simple.

Check it out and have some fun with it.

Luxe Wine Cellars

The Home PageProduct Category Customized LayoutProduct Detail PageThe Cart

Luxe Wine Cellars has been building high-end modular and custom wine racks for years.  They also build and supply the quietest, most 'invisible' cooling systems around.  It's no wonder they're gaining the respect of their competition.

There were a few goals with this project, namely seamlessly integrating "static" content pages with a dynamic shopping cart as well as showcasing Luxe Wine Cellar's work in a series of image galleries.  The shopping cart used is the great Ubertcart (as they say, "One cart to rule them all..."), which is a plug-in for the Drupal Content Management System.  Since the non-cart portions of the site were being developed in Drupal, the extension was a no-brainer.  The end result is a beautiful site which effectively shows off Luxe's products and services.

Recycled Cycles

Recycled Cycles is one of my oldest clients. They also happen to be Seattle's best known, if not oldest, used bike shop. The design goal of the site was to make it modern enough to be "hip" while still giving it that old-timey feel. The development goal was to give the shop access to the content so they could update their products, staff and blogs frequently. We also tied in the shop's racing team's blog to the home page. One of the coolest features of the site is the shop tour, produced by Milos Pec of 360degree Views. The site is fun to poke around in, as is the shop.

Text Retriever

Text Retriever is opening a new medium by which real estate agents can quickly send information to prospective buyers and renters via text messaging.  They have also developed the 1-Flyer System which encourages buyers to utilize the texting service and reduces the need for paper flyers.

The main emphasis was on the agent's control panel, where agents sign up, purchase simple 4-digit codes, and then create listings for the codes, which include all pertinent information about the property.  Then buyers and renters can text the code to 511-511 and receive information about a property's square footage, the number of rooms and bathrooms, and the size of the garage and, of course, the price of the real estate.  That information is accompanied by a digital flyer of the property and images selected by the real estate agent.

Seattle Fire Fighters Union - IAFF Local 27

The Seattle Fire Fighters Union - IAFF Local 27 represents and advocates for Seattle area fire fighters through their benefits plans, healthcare trust and political action.

Although they had been using a content management management system already, they were having trouble finding someone to redevelop the site with a new design and the new functionality they wanted.  They were looking for something that was highly customized and required quite a bit of custom scripting.  The main goal was to create a portal of sorts whereby their members could quickly access several different areas of the site.  This included quite a bit of AJAX features including accordion sliders, image slideshows, and dynamic content loading.

Monroe Investments

Although the name may imply something different, Monroe Investments is a small company that rents apartments and rooms in larger houses in the Seattle area.

Since they really just needed a nice front-end to display their rentals, we focused on building more of a web application where they only updated the rental information.  Everything else was essentially "hard-coded."  Rentals were broken down by type, price and location, and as such we created a simple navigator in the top right corner so renters could quickly find what they wanted.  The framework used here was CakePHP.

Nathan Construction

Nathan Construction takes a holistic approach to construction development, from design to construction to financing services.  As they say, they are a 'turn-key' operation.

Working closely with the owner, who is an artist in his own right, we focused on developing a model of the business by talking through all of the services they provide.  The design is decidedly elegant so as best to display samples of their work.  The culmination of all this was the projects page, showing off the many homes they have worked on.

Ketchikan Plaza

The home page. The directory with expandable information. The backend for updating the tenants.

The Ketchikan Plaza is located in...wait for it...Ketchikan, Alaska. The site on the surface is rather simple, but the owners needed a way to update their tenant list and communicate with vendors for their Saturday Market. We used CakePHP to build them a simple backend for the site, which integrated nicely with their directory page. Design-wise, I was able to use some of my interests in Native American artwork and the beautiful scenary of Alaska.

Endelman & Associates

Endelman & Associates is an architectural firm in Seattle that specializes in consulting with companies on ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and FHA (Fair Housing Act) compliance.

The goal of the site was to highlight both their clients and their projects.  Because of the nature of their work and the connection with legal action, the design was kept clean and professional, and played with a page leaf motif to highlight sections of the layout.  Work also included a customized administrative section for their projects, clients, staff and news articles.
