Standards Based Web Design

You may be asking yourself, "What are web standards?" If you could look under "the cover" of this website, you would only see the content, namely the words which form the message I am trying to get across. So all of the graphics you see are in many ways secondary, unless the graphics are the content (a photo gallery, for example). Even when meaningful words are contained within the graphics, they still exist as dedicated words "behind" the graphics.

Why Standards Based Design?

  • Greater exposure to search engines because they look at content, not design. That means more traffic to your website.
  • Increased speed at which a page can be displayed to the user, ensuring that people are more likely to stay on your website and browse from page to page.
  • Faster content updates without having to worry about "breaking" the design, saving you time and money down the road.
  • Easier redesigns without having to worry about the content, keeping your site looking fresh and up to date, even if the content doesn't change.
  • Better accommodation for cross-browser compatibility, accessibility, and different media platforms (web, mobile, screen readers), allowing more people to experience your website in various ways.
  • Better scalability, giving you more freedom to grow your website.
  • Greater flexibility with design, creating rich and engaging graphic design possibilities.
